A Unity Questionnaire
1. Do you think that it would be a good idea to honor the terrorists by naming one of our public buildings or parks after the terrorists?
2. Would you do anything about that if you heard that people were honoring the terrorists in that way?
3. Have you ever used the name “terrorist alert system” or heard others using that name?
4. Do you think that it is a good idea to unofficially name our national notification system after the terrorists?
5. Do you think that the terrorists consider the unofficial name “terrorist alert system” to be some sort of an honor?
6. Do you think the terrorists like that unofficial name and that they like that people use it?
7. Do you believe that when the U.S. Government notifies the people that there is some sort of natural or manmade problem pending that it might be a time for us to unite as a nation?
8. Have you ever considered using the name “Unity Notification System” instead of using the name “terrorist alert system”?
9. Which name do you think the terrorists want you to use?
10. Did you know that the official name of our national notification system is the “Homeland Security Advisory System”?
11. Did you know that the system uses words that indirectly tell you what your level of terror should be?
12. Does a system that indirectly tells you what your level of terror should be make you feel more secure?
13. Did you know that since that system was created that the lowest level of terror that the government has indirectly told you to have is one of elevated terror?
14. Do you think that the terrorists like it that our government indirectly sets our terror level like that?
15. Did you know that there isn't anything in the notification system that suggests that there might be days when you shouldn’t worry about terrorism and that you should just go out and enjoy the day?
16. Since 9/11 have you ever just gone out and enjoyed the day and not worried about terrorism?
17. Do you think that the terrorists like it when you just ignore them like that?
18. Do you think that the government could have chosen better words to use in the official notification system?
19. Would you like the government to change the name of our national notification system to the “Unity Notification System”?
20. Would you use the name “Unity Notification System”?
21. Do you think that it would be a good thing if the people and the government could agree to use the same name for our national notification system?
22. Would it be better for all of us to use a name that is based on our goals or a name that is based on the goals of the terrorists?
23. Do you think that we should unite as a nation to fix the problem or should we divide the nation by looking for who is most to blame?

Nobody told me that I was supposed to set my terror level to highly terrified!
Time to grab my plastic and duct tape and jump under my bed.
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!
DUST BUNNIES!
n.! The terrorists are in league with the dust bunnies now!
Notify the government. We need more red in the alert color.
Something with red highlights.
Wait a minute? I wonder if these are Easter dust bunnies just hanging around from last year?
It’s a good thing I didn’t hide any candy under here.

discussion on art's blog...it is never an easy feat discussing such
a touchy subject...but we managed...it's all good.....
much love and happyness your way today and always,
purps
I think it would be less of a feat for me to be involved in those things if I could just manage to keep both of my feet out of my mouth when I am typing. It gets kind of crowded in there with the keyboard in there too.
Thanks for stopping by,

Wow! You sure do pack a lot of different things in all at once when you write and explain things. You must run into the same sort of problems I do when I try to do it. I think I get most of the questions you are asking and the things that you are saying all at once in that comment but I think everyone else will be lost so let me try to straighten out some of this tangle. I commented on your blog and this comment of yours is in response to that but even that doesn’t even come close to explaining things.
Let me try showing you, Joram, what happens when I do a simple word substitution on what I wrote to you. I will copy what I wrote exactly and add the word “terrorism” next to the word “world” and people can read the thing two different ways by doing the substitution. The original I sent to you used the word “world”.
Xxxxxxxx
Have you considered the possibility that the world (terrorism) could be brought to an end if enough people manage to convince themselves that the world (terrorism) is coming to an end? And that the world (terrorism) could continue on if enough people believed that the world (terrorism) would continue on?
Are you trying to end the world (terrorism) or trying to stop it from ending?
Xxxxxxx
Do you see, Joram, that the thing you are trying to do in your response isn’t quite right? You are trying to use some sort of a substitution but what you wrote isn’t in the right form for it to work. Now don’t worry about it I think that I know one of the things that you were trying to say. So let me rework what you wrote a bit and put it into a form that I think you will be comfortable with. I will use “universal extinction” and “terrorism” as the “word variables” in the question that is also a simultaneous statement.
xxxxxxx
Do you wonder if enough people believe that (universal extinction)(terrorism) is not a world-wide problem that it could be a problem anyway and if enough people believe that issues of (universal extinction)(terrorism) don’t concern us that maybe we will all be victims of (universal extinction)(terrorism)?
Xxxxxxx
So is that a part of what you were trying to ask and say?
Rework it again if you need to.

Check out the pyewackets post at MAD WOMAN SPEAKS.
Hawk.
I went and checked things out and went to the “gravel2008” site to check out the Senator and his ideas. His predictions about the Iraq invasion seem to be accurate given the whole disaster it has become but I have problems with his other ideas about how to fix up the nation.
His initiative to amend the Constitution misses the fact that this idea was tried more than a century ago. A bunch of Americans got the idea that the people could overrule the government in the way that the Senator is proposing and it didn’t work out too well. It was called the Civil War. The amendment would also set things up for the U.S. to become an oppressive religious theocracy. The Senator means well but this amendment idea is not well thought out.
The Senator seems to be viewing the U.S. government as being an enemy of the people with his amendment thing but then his healthcare idea comes at things from the opposite direction where only the government can be the non-dangerous friend of the people when it comes to healthcare. The Senator’s healthcare ideas would likely turn the healthcare system into an Iraq sort of thing; a disaster.
And the same would be true for his amendment idea. So when I read his ideas it comes across as “Hey. Let’s do to the U.S what we did to Iraq. Let’s just wreck the place by going in to fix things up without thinking about the future down side or what can be learned from the past.”
Senator Gravel’s social security ideas actually dovetail in with those of President Bush about the system needing a fix. And the two of them might be able to come up with something useful if they could get together and compare notes. Both men would need to come at it from a slightly larger perspective though because both are missing the point that you can’t remove money from the social security system to fix the system. The healthcare system is probably the place to get the money from to fix up social security because presently the U.S. healthcare system is operating at less than 25 percent efficiency with 75 percent or more of the money being wasted on mindless bureaucracy and other silliness.
So if the Senator and the President could get together and come up with some sort of medical savings accounts that are also retirement accounts they could stabilize both systems at once by redirecting wasted healthcare dollars wisely. But both men would need to stop trying to amend the Constitution and start learning from it.
Anyway, that’s my initial take on the Senator. Thanks for the indirect suggestion to go check him out.

I don’t know if we are being lead. I think we might all just be running around in one big circle playing follow the leader.
With this post I am just trying to suggest that all of us just try to do one thing in some sort of a united fashion even if it’s just coming up with a better name for the notification system or a better choice of words in the system.
Every little thing divides us these days so maybe just uniting over something can break the cycle.
Thanks for the comment.

Since the purpose of the Terrorist Alert System is to keep Americans filled with fear of terrorism so they will support government policies, changing the name to something more benign would defeat the objective.
To me it’s more of a negative emotions loop where instinct passes for purpose. People aren’t thinking, they are reacting without deliberate purpose or defined goals and how people are instinctively reacting just keeps the loop going.
The name and the words used in the alert system have set us up to lose the war on terror. The only way to win the war on terror is to start by changing the words. Americans are going to have to decide whether or not they want to continue living under an emotional tyranny. American politicians and the terrorists are all using forms of emotional tyranny to get what they want because the American people are running on instinct.
The name change in the questionnaire that you see as being benign is actually a declaration of war in disguise. It declares a war on terror and other forms of emotional tyranny because the questionnaire itself is an updated form of the Declaration of Independence.
Any American politician who is foolish enough to defend the words used in the current alert system and fight against name and word changes like those suggested in the questionnaire will be siding with the terrorists.

I am not American, but I feel that your government could make some holistic changes in their approach to national and international affairs. Please visit my blog, I would appreciate your thoughts and ideas. Sincerely Mike
A short while back, I posted a piece on my blog about putting TOILET SEATS in CONGRESS.
Maybe we can AGREE on that? WINK.
My best to you and yours, oh wise one .....

Lots of money gets flushed away in Washington so there might as well be some toilets added for the sound effects.

Hmmm? Now you’ve got me thinking.
What thinking were you thinking about when you asked about my thinking?
OY
n.
Oh. So that’s what you were thinking about.
I decided that I should avoid looking for trouble in that way. It’s too easy to get dragged over to the dark side getting into all that negative stuff. Better off to go out and enjoy the day.
In regards to another thinking thing I managed to free up enough brain space so that I could check out that Mary Pipher book you recommended a while back.

I haven’t read the whole book yet but it seems good so far. It’s the kind of book where I read the first few chapters and then start jumping around to the chapters that sound interesting. So I am not getting it in the standard beginning to end sequence.
